Hi everyone! I have some very exciting news to share. If you’re reading this blog post, it means I have moved to Seoul, South Korea!
I have been absent on my blog for a while now, and I will write about that and my future plans with my blog very soon. But this post is about this life changing decision I made.
In March 2019 I went to South Korea for the very first time for modeling. I lived and worked there for 2 months, which was an amazing time. I fell in love with the food, the people, the city… and my manager. And now I’m back in Seoul, working as a model, and soon studying here as well. I just got my Alien Registration Card (ARC), which makes it feel 100% official.
You might be thinking “Soph, did you really move to the other side of the world for a guy?”, and my answer is yes and no. All of my life I have lived in a small town, and now that all my friends are going to university and have moved away to different cities, I felt very lonely and bored whenever I was home. Especially after coming back home from an exciting modeling trip abroad, I felt that way. And when I heard my friends about studying abroad, I felt a bit jealous. So when my life took this turn, I felt like I should just take the opportunity. Of course I miss my mom and my pets, but I don’t miss my hometown that was getting more and more boring every day.
Life in Seoul is very different but also quite easy to adapt to for me. The only thing I struggle with at the moment is the language, because even though I can understand quite a lot already, I feel too shy to actually talk in Korean or I get too nervous and shut down. That’s why I will be studying Korean at a university in Seoul, hopefully mastering the language quickly. I think there is no better way to learn a language than to be surrounded by it all the time, and being forced to use it. I’m really looking forward to studying something again, which might sound a bit weird. But I feel like my brain needs to be a bit more challenged and I can’t wait to actually be able to have longer and more detailed conversations.
When I came to Seoul for the first time, I felt really welcomed by the people around me, and now it almost feels like I never left. Working here as a model is great as well, I really like the market and the people I have worked with so far. Sometimes fashion can be a bit weird and you have to wear styles you don’t personally like at all, but the most dominant styles that are popular here match with my aesthetic pretty well, which makes work a lot more fun.
I probably wouldn’t have moved to Seoul if I didn’t have a boyfriend; someone who is there for me, can help me, and support me, because it is a really big step in my life. So I’m really grateful for having him and my agency who made it possible for me to come back to Seoul and live here. I can’t wait to share my adventures with you all!
