I let my Instagram followers decide how my weekly spread should look

Yesterday I thought it would be fun to let my Instagram followers decide how my weekly spread in my bullet journal should look. This is something I have seen countless times on YouTube, with bullet journals, but also make-up, food, etc. And I thought it was a fun way to get out of my comfort zone. I headed over to my Instagram story and announced that I was planning to make a weekly spread with their help and made a few polls.

I waited an hour before I ended the polls and 15 minutes for the smaller decisions. Next time I’ll definitely plan this a bit more ahead.

Stationery I have used: Leuchtturm1917 A5 dotted journal, Stabilo fineliner black, Tombow Fudenosuke hard tip, Ecoline brush pens 201 and 227, pencil, eraser, protractor, Twin markers, Crayola Supertips, washi tape.

Yellow or grey + pink?

First I asked which colours and style I should go for. I had two ideas in mind: comic book style in yellow or minimalistic in grey with hints of pink. It ended up being 52%-48%. It was a very close call, and for a long time I thought minimalistic would win. But I was most excited for the yellow theme, so I was happy that one won.

Bold or elegant?

Next up I asked whether I should use bold lettering or elegant lettering. Bold won by far with 62%-38%. I think that worked best with this spread as well.

Add washi tape?

I simple yes or no question. 82% said yes, so I went crazy with the washi tape, haha. I also decided to draw a few grid tapes, since I don’t own those, but really like the look of them.

How to fill the gap?

Because February 18 is J-hope’s, one of my favourite artists, birthday, I made an attempt of drawing him (it doesn’t look like him, but I like the drawing nonetheless). I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with the gap on the bottom of the left page. I asked my followers if I should add a quote or draw sunflowers. The result was 29%-71%. So I started sketching a sunflower and when I was done I realised I really liked the sketch look to it, so I went with it.

Quote ideas

I needed a quote for the left page and posted a question sticker to my story. Not many people sent in a quote, so there was not much to choose from, but I chose ‘be happy’. And because it was a short quote, I decided to fill up the page with another sunflower.

It’s been a while since I’ve made a weekly spread like this and I had lots of fun working on it. I really like how colourful it is. I definitely want to let you all decide how my weekly spread should look again another time. What do you think of this spread?

Too bad I missed it, it would have been fun joining the polls. I like how the journal end up looking! I would have chosen gray and pink too, but you’re right about trying something new to get out of our comfort zone. Really like how it turns out!

Next time I’ll announce it. It was a very impulsive thing, haha. Gray and pink definitely would’ve been the save choice, but I got to be very creative with the yellow theme. Thank you!!šŸ’›

This is gorgeous! I bought myself a journal a year ago but never got started on it because I’m not at all artistic. Seeing this I really want to have another go. Maybe I could do something for March. Have you got any tips to start me off?

Thank you!!šŸ’› Definitely give it a go, it’s so much fun to do and really calming. My first few journal pages didn’t look like this at all. Some tips would be to choose a colour scheme, browse Pinterest for some inspiring or fun pictures that match that theme and only add things you’ll actually use (I used to add huge habit trackers to my journal every month, and I ended up never using them). And also I’d say to start without having all those fancy journals in mind, because it can get really discouraging if you try to make something like that, but you can’t because you just started out and have to experiment more. This is such a cool idea! I love my bullet journal, but after I didn’t use it for the last few months of 2018 bc I didn’t have time to draw out a layout every week I have decided to only draw monthly layouts for 2019, and use the journal for the next 3 or so years. I also have that sunflower washi and its my favourite! Iā€™m sad though bc its running out and I can’t remember where I bought it šŸ™

Thank you!! I totally understand that, it can be very time-consuming to make a new spread every week. The washi tape is one of my favourites as well! I bought mine on Aliexpress (if you want, I can send you the link).

oh thank you! I remember now! when I have money Iā€™m definitely going to go on a washi shopping spree!
